Paige
Hello! My name is Paige and I am the Livestock Assistant at Curly's Farm. I started working at the farm in January 2023. I have learnt an awful lot during this time and am looking forward to learning more!
I help to look after all the animals that call the farm home, as well as supporting the young people that attend the farm. One of my favourite parts about working on the farm will always be seeing new life be born and sharing that with everyone. Working with animals and people means that no two days are the same! Being a working farm means that our young people can get involved with all aspects of farming and learn lots of new things. One day you're walking alpaca's, the next you're trimming goat feet, halter training cattle, the list is endless! Seeing all our young people enjoying working with the animals, making friends and learning along the way is amazing! Seeing the smiles on the young people's faces every day is fantastic and I am really proud to be a part of that.
I have learnt so many new skills during my time at the farm so far - livestock knowledge, sign language, working with SEN children/adults - to name just a small few!
It's no secret on the farm that my favourite animals are the goats! I am quite often referred to as the "crazy goat lady", so if you ever need me, you know where to find me! We have four different breeds of goats on the farm, one of them being a rare breed, the Royal Golden Guernsey Goats - they are beautiful! We do have other rare breeds on the farm - Middle White pigs, Bourbon Red turkeys, and Valais Blacknose sheep, to name a few. I also love our Birds of Prey and I am lucky enough to work with them every day too.
I am also very proud to be the Club Leader of our Young Farmers Club, which runs every Wednesday during term time. The biggest event every year for the club is attending and competing at Kent County Show, which we are really looking forward to again this year!
So what did I do before my journey at the farm started? My life was all about horses! I was a BHSAI qualified horse-riding instructor - teaching people of all ages and abilities - as well as riding and competing at a high level myself. I worked with horses for over 10 years! Unfortunately I had an accident back in 2022 which meant I had to make a career change, but I have found another passion now! I hadn't really had any experience with farm animals until I started working at Curly's Farm, but I have always been a huge animal lover and very keen to learn.
If I'm not at the farm you'll probably find me walking my two dogs along the beach, or visiting my family. Be sure to say hello next time you visit the farm!
