Kyle
Hello! I'm Kyle Ratcliffe the Head of Charity for Curly’s Farm, but more importantly I'm Curly's Dad, my journey has been deeply intertwined with both personal experiences and a profound commitment to making a difference. Alongside my husband Garry, we founded Curly’s Farm as a charitable endeavour to support children and young adults, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our farm is named after our son Curly, reflecting the personal and emotional investment we have in this project.
Being a father to four children, three of whom have special needs, has profoundly influenced my approach to running Curly’s Farm. It’s not just a farm to me; it’s a haven where we can provide support, education, and therapeutic experiences to others who face similar challenges. Our work at the farm is an extension of our life at home, filled with compassion and understanding.
At Curly’s Farm, I oversee the strategic direction of the charity and the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring the welfare of our rare and traditional breed animals, such as Coloured Ryeland sheep, Middle White pigs, and Bourbon Red Turkeys. These breeds are an important part of our educational programmes, allowing visitors to learn about their significance and the importance of biodiversity.
Fundraising and community outreach are also crucial parts of my role. I actively work on building partnerships with local businesses and organisations, securing donations, and organising events to raise awareness and funds for our cause. These efforts are vital in sustaining our programmes and expanding our impact.
One of the initiatives I'm particularly proud of is Curly’s Caravan. This programme provides respite and therapeutic breaks for families who need it most. I know firsthand the challenges of raising children with special needs, and Curly’s Caravan is designed to offer practical support and a much-needed break for these families.
Curly’s Farm is also a place for unique educational and training experiences. We host school groups, individuals, and families, providing them with opportunities to engage in farm activities, interact with animals, and develop new skills. These experiences are tailored to enhance confidence, social skills, and overall well-being, especially for those with SEND.
My dedication to Curly’s Farm extends beyond its physical boundaries. I advocate for inclusion and accessibility, ensuring that our farm is a welcoming place for everyone. This commitment has been recognised by the community, and we’ve received significant support and media attention, which helps amplify our mission.
Every day at Curly’s Farm is a testament to what can be achieved with passion and dedication. Seeing the positive impact we have on the lives of children and families motivates me to keep pushing forward. Curly’s Farm is more than just a charity; it’s a legacy of love, inclusion, and community support that I am incredibly proud to be a part of Curly's Farm
